Ever notice that every torrent site has ads plastered everywhere? And not ads for Amnesty International, mind you; commercial, for-profit ads, the kind you get money for putting on your site. I see a lot of porn ads, which definitely bring in the revenue.
So somebody’s making money there. Just not, y’know, the people who created the content that’s being torrented in the first place.
Which makes it a little disingenuous when self-proclaimed “pirates” start cloaking themselves in the whole “information wants to be free” bit.
Tell it to your advertisers, dick.
Yes, but my point is that they’re making money indexing other people’s pirated content. I doubt all the money after expenses is going to the EFF or anything.
I’m not pissed at people who download, not really. My fury is for people who profit from pirating the work of others.
The people downloading things via bittorrent aren’t the same people running those indexing sites. Running those indexing sites also cost bandwidth and time (read: money). I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how expensive bandwidth can be, which is the whole reason bittorrent was created to begin with. Which is more than a little funny, when I think about it.
You want to be pissed at the pirates, go ahead, but ranting at them isn’t going to change anything.
